PROTECTING LIFE AND AMERICAN TAXPAYERS

Every child deserves a chance at life. They deserve the chance to be truly loved and cared for by someone willing to sacrifice for them and put their well-being first. Every child has value and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and care.

That commitment to protecting innocent life also means ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and in accordance with federal law.

Last week, I signed onto a letter with my Republican colleagues calling on the leadership of the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a comprehensive review of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding and determine whether the organization and its affiliates have complied with federal laws and funding requirements.

Our letter follows a separate review by the Small Business Administration into more than $88 million in COVID-era Paycheck Protection Program loans received by 38 Planned Parenthood affiliates. The SBA is reviewing whether those affiliates were eligible to receive the loans, while lawmakers have also raised concerns about other allegations involving the use of federal funds and compliance with mandatory reporting requirements.

Any organization that receives taxpayer dollars must be held to the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and accountability. The American people deserve to know where their money is going, whether federal laws are being followed, and whether taxpayer dollars have been subject to fraud, waste, or abuse.

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, I will continue fighting to protect innocent life, defend taxpayers, and demand accountability from organizations receiving federal funds.

MY BILL PASSED THE SENATE!

Last week, my bill to designate America’s National Churchill Museum in Fulton as a National Historic Landmark passed the Senate and is now headed to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.

Nearly 80 years ago, Sir Winston Churchill traveled to Westminster College in Fulton and delivered one of the most consequential speeches of the 20th century. Standing alongside President Harry Truman, Churchill delivered his famous “Sinews of Peace” address, better known as the “Iron Curtain” speech, warning of the growing division across Europe and calling on free nations to stand together against tyranny.

That historic moment established Fulton’s place in world history. To honor the legacy of Churchill’s visit, Westminster College undertook a remarkable effort in the 1960s to relocate the 17th-century Church of St. Mary Aldermanbury from London to Fulton, where it was carefully reconstructed stone by stone. Completed in 1969, the church now serves as the home of America’s National Churchill Museum, which preserves this history and gives visitors the opportunity to learn about Churchill’s leadership, his defense of individual freedom, and the lessons of one of the most consequential periods in modern history.

Churchill’s understanding of history and steadfast commitment to individual freedom shaped his leadership through the difficult years of World War II and the challenges that followed. His final words in Parliament, “never flinch, never weary, never despair,” reflect the resolve that defined his leadership and continues to resonate generations later.

My legislation directs the Secretary of the Interior to formally designate America’s National Churchill Museum as a National Historic Landmark. It also requires the National Park Service to conduct a Special Resource Study to evaluate additional opportunities to recognize the historic significance of the site.

The history preserved at America’s National Churchill Museum extends far beyond Fulton. Churchill’s speech helped define a new era in world affairs, and nearly eight decades later, the place where he delivered that message continues to offer an important opportunity to understand its significance and the lessons it holds for future generations. This designation will help ensure that this history is preserved and shared for years to come. I am proud that my legislation has now passed both chambers of Congress and is one step closer to becoming law.
